At the beginning of the 1960ies, the Blaschke family lives a contemplative life in the Westphalia countryside. After fleeing from the Eastern Territories in the last winter of the War, the family successfully built a new life for themselves in the years of the economic miracle. But for the parents there is only a single, all-dominant theme: the search for their first-born son Arnold, who got lost during the escape. The second born son Max thus goes unnoticed within the family. For him, the biggest dream of his parents turns into a nightmare: he absolutely does not want his brother to return home.
